The Ministry of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources of Ecuador has extended the deadline for the submission of bids for the concession of the Santiago Hydroelectric Power Plant project in the province of Morona-Santiago.
The concession of the project includes financing, design, construction, implementation, administration, operation, and maintenance for a term of 30 years. The first stage of the hydroelectric project will have an installed capacity of 2,432.70 MW. It will have 8 Francis-type generation units of 304.10 MW each that will be located on the Santiago River, between the cantons of Tiwintza, Limón Indanza, and Santiago de Méndez. The US$3 billion project is expected to generate up to 14,573 GWh of energy per year once commissioned. The construction will be carried out for 72 months.
