Colombian oil company Ecopetrol SA has awarded AES Colombia, a subsidiary of Chile-based power company AES Andes SA and a unit of US group AES Corp., a contract to build a 26 MW solar photovoltaic project in the department of Huila.
The Ecoparque Solar Brisas photovoltaic farm will be developed on about 20 hectares of land in the municipality of Aipe. It will feature up to 48,000 bifacial solar modules. The project is expected to be operational before the end of 2022.
AES Colombia will develop the solar project and sell the output energy to Ecopetrol under a 15-year power purchase agreement. The solar farm is part of Ecopetrol's solar initiatives that are aimed at self-supply.
