The European Commission has approved the 50-50 joint venture plan of France's Engie SA and EDP Renovaveis SA to own EDPR Offshore Espana.

The joint venture will develop both fixed and floating offshore wind projects. The entity will also unite the current offshore wind assets of the two companies that include the 950 MW Moray East Offshore Wind, the 25 MW Windfloat Atlantic, and the 487 MW SeaMade wind project that are currently under construction. Other projects that are currently in advanced development are also included such as the Moray West Offshore Wind with a generating capacity of up to 950 MW, the 992 MW Treport & Noirmoutier wind project, the 30 MW Leucate wind project, the 1,336 MW Mayflower wind project (of which 804 MW tariff awarded), and the 400 MW B&C Wind Project.

The Commission has concluded that the deal has not raised competition concerns to the market.

The joint venture is expected to be operational by the first quarter of 2020.
