Repsol has announced its plans to develop a new wind project of 860 MW in Aragon, Spain. The project, called Delta 2, will be made up of 26 wind farms and will be located between the provinces of Huesca, Zaragoza, and Teruel. It will be developed over the next three years and, when in operation, will allow electricity to be supplied to approximately 1.8 million people, more than the entire population of Aragon. Likewise, its renewable generation will prevent the emission of more than 2.6 million tons of CO2 per year with respect to electricity produced with coal.
Repsol has just closed the purchase of Delta 2 wind project from Forestalia. Repsol did not reveal the amount of the acquisition or the investment necessary for its development of the project, although according to market sources it is around 130 million euros (USD 143 million). The wind farms will be built and operated by Repsol's electricity and gas subsidiary Repsol Electricidad y Gas.
Delta 2 joins other renewable projects that Repsol has underway in Aragón, Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, Andalucía and Extremadura: 335 MW Delta wind farm; the 255 MW wind farm located between Palencia and Valladolid; 204 MW Sigma photovoltaic park in Cádiz; 264 MW photovoltaic project of Valdesolar (Badajoz); and the recently incorporated 126.6 MW Kappa photovoltaic project in Ciudad Real. In addition, the company participates in the Windfloat Atlantic floating wind farm, on the north coast of Portugal, with a total installed capacity of 25 MW, of which 5 correspond to Repsol.
The incorporation of this new wind project consolidates Repsol's commitment to lead the energy transition and contributes to the goal of being a company with zero net emissions in 2050.
