Deutsche Bahn AG has announced its plans to acquire 20 MW of power from the 960 MW He Dreiht offshore wind farm project in the German North Sea. Under a power purchase agreement (PPA) signed with EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG, Deutsche Bahn will benefit from green electricity supplied by the offshore wind farm for a period of 15 years. This move is expected to reduce the company's annual carbon emissions by up to 60,000 metric tons.
The He Dreiht wind farm, set to begin construction in 2024 and become operational by the end of 2025, will be located approximately 90 km northwest of Borkum and 110 km west of Helgoland. The project aims to install 64 Vestas turbines, known for their high-rated output of 15 MW each, making them among the most powerful turbines available in the market. With a total installed generation capacity of 960 MW, the He Dreiht wind farm will be one of Europe's largest energy transition initiatives.
EnBW will oversee the technical and commercial management of the wind farm, as well as handle all maintenance and servicing tasks.
RWE has chosen DeepOcean as the preferred supplier for subsea installation services in the Nordseecluster A offshore wind development.
