Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), through its Advanced Bioenergy Fund II (ABF II), has reached a final investment decision (FID) on Via Verde, an Italian biomethane platform. ABF II invests primarily in the development, construction, and operation of biogas plants across Europe, converting agricultural waste and other sustainable feedstock into biomethane.
Via Verde marks the first investment by Advanced Bioenergy Fund II (ABF II) and represents Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners’ entry into Italy’s biomethane sector. The initiative aims to produce renewable gas domestically, reducing reliance on imported fossil fuels while advancing Italy’s energy security and decarbonisation objectives.
The platform comprises a pipeline of 20 projects strategically distributed across several Italian regions, including Lombardy, Abruzzo, and Campania. Each facility is expected to process approximately 60,000–100,000 tonnes of agricultural waste annually, converting organic residues into biomethane and supporting the development of Italy’s renewable energy infrastructure. Once the 20 projects are fully operational, the Via Verde platform will deliver approximately 1 TWh of biomethane annually, equivalent to the annual gas consumption of around 60,000 Italian households.
