Dominion Energy has secured the Construction and Operations Plan (COP) approval for its 2.6 GW Coastal Virginia offshore wind (CVOW) project in the USA.
The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has issued a favorable Record of Decision, completing the environmental review process for the CVOW project. With this environmental approval, Dominion Energy has been granted permission to commence onshore construction in late 2023, while offshore construction is slated to begin in early 2024. Once fully operational in late 2026, the 2.6GW CVOW project is anticipated to produce enough clean, renewable energy to power approximately 660,000 homes.
This large-scale commercial wind project is located approximately 23.5 nautical miles (43.5km) offshore Virginia Beach. The project incorporates offshore measures to minimize impacts on marine life and onshore strategies to mitigate effects on natural and cultural resources as well as communities.
