The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has released two draft Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) for the 3 GW Coastal Virginia Wind (CVOW) and 1,034 MW Sunrise Wind offshore wind projects for public feedback. If permitted, the wind farms are expected to supply over 4,000 MW of offshore wind energy capacity, sufficient to power over 1,300,000 residences.
The Department of the Interior has also approved the first two commercial-scale offshore wind projects, started review on 10 more, and hosted three offshore wind lease auctions.
If approved, Dominion-owned CVOW off the coast of Virginia Beach; and Sunrise offshore of New York, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, developed by Orsted and Eversource, are expected to supply over 4,000 MW of offshore wind energy capacity, sufficient to power over 1.3 million residences.
