The Electricity Generation Company of Bangladesh (EGCB), backed by the World Bank and the Bangladeshi government, has finished building a 75 MW solar project in in Feni district, southeastern Bangladesh.

The power plant was initially designed to generate 50 MW of electricity, but later its capacity was increased to 75 MW, as it was found that approximately US$22 million could be saved from the allocated budget, and the necessary land was available. Funding for the project was provided by the World Bank, the EGCB, and the government. The plant is equipped with 187,410 solar modules supplied by an undisclosed manufacturer. It is connected to the grid through a 230 kV substation, two 230/33 kV transformers, 13.33 km of 230 kV power evacuation lines, and an extension of a 230 kV transmission bay. Feni district hosts several solar power plants, both public and private. The EGCB has announced plans to construct three more solar power plants in the area. Bangladesh currently generates around 1,205 MW of clean energy, with 972 MW coming from solar sources.
