The project involves the development, design, permitting, engineering, financing, procurement, construction, commissioning, testing, completion, ownership, insurance, operation and maintenance of a greenfield solar photovoltaic plant near the city of Sakaka, in Al Jouf, northern Saudi Arabia. The project is expected to have a total capacity output at interconnection not exceeding at any time 300 MWac capacity of electricity generation.
The event took place following an announcement last week of the successful financial closure of the c. SAR 1.2 billion (US$319.7 million) project by ACWA Power, a leading developer, owner, and operator of power generation and water desalination plants.
The commercial operation date of the plant is expected to be on 2019. Upon completion, the 300 MW Sakaka PV IPP will supply 45,000 households with power in Al Jouf, while offsetting over 430,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year.
