SSE Renewables has announced plans to develop a proposed new 60 MW onshore wind farm in County Tyrone to be located near the village of Fintona in south Tyrone, Ireland.
The wind farm could comprise up to ten onshore wind turbines capable of generating up to 60 MW of new renewable energy. The project could also include a co-located Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to store excess renewable electricity for peak demand use at time when the wind isn't blowing. The project would be capable of producing enough renewable energy to power the equivalent of up to 64,000 homes every year and displacing up to 48,000 metric tonnes of harmful CO2 annually from electricity generated by fossil fuels.
Once operational, the project would support a dedicated Community Benefit Fund of up to GBP 300,000 (US$ 387,468) a year. The fund would provide financial backing to a range of grassroots initiatives building sustainable communities, promoting good health and well-being, and supporting quality education including scholarships to third-level education for local students.
