Boralex Inc. has announced that the 106 MW Limekiln Wind Farm, located near Thurso in Caithness, Scotland, is now fully operational.
The wind farm comprises 24 Vestas V136-4.5MW turbines, each standing 150 meters tall at the tip of the blade. Beyond generating zero-carbon electricity, the project offers several social, economic, and environmental benefits. These include biodiversity enhancements such as a native species planting scheme and a peat restoration program, as well as a Community Benefit Fund exceeding GBP 500,000 (US$645,935) annually throughout the project's lifespan.
The Limekiln Wind Farm operates under a government-backed 15-year Contract for Difference (CfD) set to commence in April 2028. To bridge the period between the wind farm's commissioning and the start of the CfD, Boralex has entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Statkraft, a leading PPA provider in the UK.
NextEnergy Capital’s (NEC) solar infrastructure fund, backed by the UK government’s national infrastructure bank, has closed its final fundraising round at GBP 733 million (US$ 949 million), exceeding its GBP 500 million (US$ 647 million) target.
