Ocean Winds (OW) has marked the installation of the final wind turbine at the 882 MW Moray West offshore wind farm on the way to fully commissioning the project in the Moray Firth, located in northern Scotland, UK.
The 60th and final Siemens Gamesa SG 14-222 DD wind turbine has been installed and each turbine can deliver up to 14.7 MW, making them the largest offshore commercial turbines in Europe. Upon commissioning, Ocean Winds will become Scotland's largest offshore wind operator. The pre-assembly activity of the 60 turbines has been managed by Siemens Gamesa, who also manufactured all 180 blades for the project at their facility in Hull, UK. Siemens Gamesa has been marshaling all turbine components at the Port of Nigg, where the Cadeler heavy lift vessel ‘Wind Orca’ undertook the installation. Siemens Gamesa’s technicians on land and board the vessel have overseen each installation and are in the process of commissioning each turbine. Once operational the wind farm will have the capacity to power up to 1.3 million homes in the UK.
Following the installation of all primary project components across foundations, offshore and onshore substations, array, and export cables, and now the wind turbines, the project continues its commissioning and testing phase before full acceptance of the project in 2025.
