Commercial operations start for 1.3 GW Offshore wind farm in UK

Ørsted has announced that the Hornsea 2 Offshore wind farm located 89 km off the Yorkshire Coast in the UK is now fully operational.

The wind facility is built over an area of 462 sq. km. It consists of 165 SG 8.0-165 DD wind turbines of 8 MW, each wind turbine blade is 81 m long and the blade tip reaches more than 200 m above sea level. One revolution of the wind turbine blades can power an average UK home for 24 hours. The total capacity of the wind farm is 1.32 GW which is enough to power 1.4 million homes in the UK.

The wind farm is situated alongside its sibling Hornsea 1, which together can power 2.5 million homes and make a significant contribution to the UK Government’s ambition of having 50 GW offshore wind in operation by 2030.
