1.07 GW Offshore wind farm generated its First power in Scotland

SSE Renewables and its partner TotalEnergies have announced that the Seagreen offshore wind farm located 27km off the coast of Angus in Scotland has generated its first power.

The 1,075 MW wind farm consists of a total of 114 pieces of MHI Vestas wind turbines which are expected to generate 5 TWh of renewable electricity per year, enough to power the equivalent of 1.6 million households. The first Vestas turbine was commissioned and connected to the grid on August 22, 2022.

TotalEnergies and SSE Renewables hold a 51% and 49% stake respectively in the GBP3 billion (US$3.53 billion) fixed bottom offshore wind farm.

The wind farm is expected to be fully operational in Q1 of 2023.
