NKT announced that it has commissioned the 196 km 220 kV HVAC power cable system for the Hornsea 2 offshore wind farm located 89 km off the English east coast. NKT is responsible for the design, engineering, manufacturing, cable-laying, installation and testing of the wind project.
The project consists of 165 SG 8.0-165 DD wind turbines of 8 MW and has a capacity of 1.32 GW. It will be the world’s biggest offshore wind farm when fully operational, taking the title from its sibling project Hornsea 1.
The wind farm holds a central position in the transition to renewable energy in the UK and will power more than 1.3 million households when fully operational. The project is currently under construction and is planned to be commissioned later in 2022.
