J-Wind Co. Ltd. has completed the renovation (facility upgrades) of the New Tomamae Winvilla Wind Farm located in Tomamae Town, Hokkaido, Japan.
The Tomamae Winvilla Wind Farm marked a significant milestone as the first operational wind farm under the J-POWER Group. Initially equipped with 19 turbines (with individual outputs of 1,650 kW and 1,500 kW), the farm underwent an upgrade, reducing the number of turbines to eight but increasing their individual output to 4,300 kW each. This transformation has made the New Tomamae Winvilla Wind Farm one of Japan's largest wind farms. The upgrade project, which introduced larger equipment, aims to enhance performance and optimize the utilization of local wind resources.
Under the new name, the New Tomamae Winvilla Wind Farm has commenced operations. This initiative aligns with J-POWER's strategy to effectively harness wind energy in the region. With the addition of this new facility, J-POWER's wind power generation business in Japan has expanded to 29 sites, including 21 operational sites, two sites undergoing updates, four under construction, and two planning facility replacements. Among these, the operational sites in Hokkaido Prefecture now contribute a total output of 210,682 kW to J-POWER's wind power generation efforts, bringing the company's overall wind power capacity in Japan to 766,192 kW.
