SPIC of China aims to acquire a stake in the 3,580 MW Santo Antonio hydropower dam in Brazil. The company offers around BRL 2B to Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais SA (Cemig), Odebrecht and Andrade Gutierrez who have a combined 41% ownership of the project.
Odebrecht favors the sale due to the company's struggle with debt and corruption. On the other hand, Cemig considered the bid value to be low, due to the project's large debts. Furthermore, Eletrobras, who owns 39% of the project decided not to sell its stake.
