The Bangladeshi cabinet committee on government purchase has approved the installation of two solar plants totaling 120 megawatt capacity.

By approving two proposals, the committee gave the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) the go-ahead to sign power-purchase deals with sponsor companies.

One plant with a 70 MW facility will be set up at Iswardi Upazila in Pabna district and another 50 MW plant will be established at Muktagachha in Mymensingh. Both the plants got the all-clear under the Quick Enhancement of Electricity and Energy Supply (Special Provision) Act 2021.

The 70 MW plant will be set up by a consortium of two Korean companies-Daehan Green Energy Co Ltd and HI Korea Co Ltd, and local developer Pabna Solar Power Ltd. The plant will be set up on a build-own-and-operate basis on 182 acres of land.

The 50 MW plant will be developed by a consortium of France-based Total Eren S.A., Norwegian Renewables Group AS and Urban Services Ltd Bangladesh on a build-own-and-operate basis.

The BPDB will buy electricity from both the plants at US$0.1015/kWh under a 20-year deal.
