Aquila Capital has completed the acquisition of a 103 MW hydropower projects (HPP) portfolio from Energias de Portugal for a total consideration of EUR164 million (US$187.6 million).
The hydropower portfolio consists of 14 run-of-river units and seven reservoir plants located in northern and central Portugal with a total capacity of about 100 megawatts. It is diversified across 10 river systems and all plants have been in operation for several years.
With the closing of the transaction, the ownership of EDP Small Hydro has been transferred to Aquila Capital, including the ownership of seven small HPPs and controls of Pebble Hydro Consultoria and Investimento e Servicos Lda.
EDP will still be in charge with the operation and maintenance (O&M) of the projects.
