The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) in Brazil has proposed to the Council of Investment Partnerships Program (CPPI) to hire an EPC contractor for remaining works for the Angra 3 nuclear plant. The proposal for the capitalization of debts related to the project has already been forwarded to the PPI Council could have been approved in March 2020, but the meetings were postponed due to COVID-19.

63% of the works for the plant are already completed. If approved, the private partner model will be dropped and all the references will be removed from the decree. The proposal will enable the reduction of the contracts and increase the efficiency of the works. BNDES concluded the possibilities of obtaining bank loans for the completion of remaining works. The proposal will be submitted to the National Energy Policy Council (CNPE).

Although COVID 19 pandemic is leading to a reduction in the expected growth in energy demand in the coming years, Angra 3 has room for commercial operation, in the last case, in the first months 2027.
