Long-term PPA signed for 504 MW wind farm in Brazil

Casa dos Ventos has signed a long-term renewable energy purchase and sale agreement with Tivit, a Brazilian multinational of digital solutions, to supply wind energy to its 30 offices and four data centers across the country. The agreement provides for the supply of all the company's electricity demand from 2022 through the Rio do Vento complex, located in Rio Grande do Norte.

With an installed capacity of 504 MW and an investment of BRL2.4 billion (US$438.4 million), the Rio do Vento wind farm is formed by eight Special Purpose Companies, which makes it possible to negotiate contracts in the free market with companies of different sizes and sectors.

According to Lucas Araripe, director of New Business at Casa dos Vento, Rio do Vento is a unique project and the winds that blow in the region are intense and constant, a climatic characteristic that allows working with contracts and far more competitive rates with customers. He claims that the company has brought unprecedented to the Free Contracting Environment when customizing the parks in Rio do Vento to the different needs of customers. In this case, the customer has the option of becoming self-producer, with the risks of construction and operation mitigated and benefiting from the scale brought to the complex.

Rio do Vento plant has 120 V150-4.2 MW turbines supplied by the Danish Vestas and is located in the municipalities of Caiçara do Rio do Vento, Riachuelo, Ruy Barbosa and Bento Fernandes. The commercial operation of the complex is scheduled for the second half of 2021.
