The government of the Brazilian state Piaui announced that the Spanish developer Enerside will develop 322.06 MWp solar photovoltaic complex in the state of Piaui, Brazil. The company will invest USD 320 million in the development of the plant.
The solar complex will be located in the municipality of Ribeiro Gonçalves, 600 kilometers from the state capital Teresina and will feature approximately 894,600 modules. The complex will occupy an area of 550 hectares (1359 acres).
The construction is planned to start in the first quarter of 2020. The project will be built in two phases, with the first phase costing USD 73 million and reach the power of 72.58 MWp. The works are expected to be completed in 2023. When the complex is complete, the power generation capacity of 644,232 megawatt-hours will prevent the emission of 300,000 tons of carbon dioxide.
Enerside had an interest in the project since the last year when the Piaui state governor visited Spain and presented the state's potential for solar energy. Since then the company carried out feasibility studies in the regions of Ribeiro Gonçalves and Baixa Grande do Ribeiro.
Enerside has projects in Spain and Europe and is expanding its activities in emerging markets in North, Central and South America. Enerside has 400+ WM developed and 1.5 GW in development in Brazil.
