A consortium led by Akuo and formed by Harrison Street, Morgan Stanley, and GE Energy Financial Services (GE EFS) has commissioned the Bennington Wind project, a 93.06 MW wind farm located approximately 160 kilometers southwest of Chicago, in Bennington, Illinois in the USA.
Bennington Wind is the third wind farm developed and operated by Akuo in North America. The construction of the wind farm started in September 2020 with commissioning within expected timeframes. Bennington Wind provides significant economic benefits to the County of Marshall and the State of Illinois as it already created approximately 350 jobs during construction, including 150 were filled by residents of Marshall County.
The project is expected to generate more enough electricity to power over 33,000 homes and offset the emission of 300,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year operating.
