Akuo has been granted planning approval for the development of a 50 MW/150 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in New Caledonia, a French overseas territory in Polynesia.
The battery storage system, which will be constructed in the commune of Boulouparis, is slated to become the largest in France, storing electricity generated by solar farms in the area. The project is expected to cost roughly XPF9 billion (US$82.9).
The project will provide electricity storage capacity for three hours once operational.
