Air Products (APD) and The AES Corporation will invest US$4 billion to build, own, and operate a 1.4 GW green hydrogen generation plant in Wilbarger County, Texas, USA. This massive renewable energy-to-hydrogen project combines wind and solar power generation, as well as electrolyzer capacity capable of producing more than 200 metric tons per day (MT/D) of green hydrogen.
Expected to commence commercial operations in 2027, the facility will address the increasing demand for zero-carbon intensity fuels in the transportation and industrial markets. Over the lifetime of the project, it is anticipated that more than 50 million metric tons of CO2 will be avoided, which is equivalent to preventing emissions from roughly 5 billion gallons of diesel fuel.
Air Products and AES will equally own the project, and Air Products will be the sole purchaser and marketer of green hydrogen under a 30-year contract.
