174 Power Global secures approval for 100 MW East River Energy Storage project

174 Power Global Corp, an affiliate of South Korea's Hanwha Group, has secured development approval for the planned 100 MW battery energy storage project in Astoria, Queens County in New York. 

The East River Energy Storage project has been granted a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity by New York State Public Service Commission (PSC). Con Edison, a subsidiary of Consolidated Edison Inc, has contracted the project for power purchase once operational. 

The project will be built on a leased property owned by the New York Power Authority. Commissioning of the project is expected to be done by early 2023.
