Shell Plc has partnered with Foresight Group to acquire the development rights for the 370 MW hybrid renewable energy project named Kondinin Energy Development located in Western Australia. The project is acquired by both companies in a 50/50 joint venture for an undisclosed sum from developers Lacour Energy Pty Ltd and Goldwind International Holdings. The Australian Renewables Income Fund (ARIF), managed by Foresight, acquired the 50% interest.
The proposed project would combine up to 235 MW of wind power, 80 MW of solar power, and 60 MW/120 MWh of battery storage. The first two phases of the hybrid scheme involve construction of two wind farms with respective capacity of 121 MW and 114 MW. The third phase will involve the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels. In the final phase, a battery storage system will be added.
The project is currently at an advanced stage of development, with land and development permissions in place. The construction of the first phase is scheduled to begin in 2024.
