Neoen SA has submitted a planning application to the Shire of Collie and the Regional Joint Development Assessment Panel (JDAP) for the development of a 1 GW/4 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Western Australia. The facility will be connected to the South West Interconnected System (SWIS).
The BESS project will be constructed over an area of 31 ha located near the coal town of Collie, approximately 215 km southeast of Perth, in five 200 MW/800 MWh stages, or as needed to meet regional energy storage demand.
The company is also seeking approval to construct new switchgear, a 330/33 kV substation with step-up power transformers and 330 kV overhead cables in order to link the project to the current Western Power transmission network.
