The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) procedure has begun for the 1.3 GW Odra Energia Floating wind project located off the coast of Lecce province, Puglia region, in the southern Adriatic Sea, Italy.
The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was presented to the Italian Ministry of Culture (MiC) and the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security (Mase) following a year-long study and research phase. The project hypothesis will be outlined in a series of documents that make up the study and will be made available for public comment in the upcoming weeks.
The project will be developed by Renantis and BlueFloat Energy and include 90 floating wind turbines which are capable of producing about 4 TWh/year equivalent to the consumption of more than one million Italian households. It is projected that about EUR4 billion (US$4.35 billion) will be invested in the project's development and construction.
The European Commission has allocated EUR308 million (US$326.83 million) for the 600 MW ELMED transmission project between Italy and Tunisia.
