Hexicon plans to develop a 1.2 GW offshore wind project in Italy

The Italian authorities for State Maritime Concession have granted the initial application submitted by AvenHexicon, a 50/50 joint venture of Hexicon and Avapa Energy Srl., to develop a 1,200 MW offshore wind farm project outside of Porto Empedocle in south Sicily, Italy.

The wind farm is planned for five potential development sites situated around the coasts of Sardinia, Sicily, and Puglia. The offshore wind project in the Strait of Sicily is set to contribute to the Italian Government's goals of deployment of 6-7 GW of new yearly renewable capacity thus helping to achieve the goal of generating 55% of its total electricity generation from renewables by 2030.
