Contractor nominated for 240 MW/480 MWh Battery Energy Storage System in Australia

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has nominated Canadian Solar’s e-storage division as the preferred major contractor to build the 240 MW/480 MWh Summerfield Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in the Murraylands region, South Australia.

Canadian Solar is set to supply its Solbank technology for the BESS in collaboration with CIP. Initially offering two hours of storage, the Summerfield project has the potential for expansion to cater to future market demands. The 240 MW Summerfield battery plays a crucial role in providing essential storage and grid stability. It will store excess energy during periods of low demand and feed power back into the grid during peak demand.

The project is situated in Tepko, approximately 60 km east of Adelaide, strategically aligned with the planned 275 kV South East transmission line expansion, which will integrate new renewable generation from the South East Renewable Energy Zone (REZ).
