Company description

Electrica S.A. is Romania's largest publicly listed electricity utility, founded in 1898 and headquartered in Bucharest. It operates across three main segments: electricity distribution through regional subsidiaries (Transilvania Nord, Transilvania Sud, Muntenia Nord), electricity and natural gas supply via Electrica Furnizare, and an energy services unit (Electrica Serv), managing nearly 199,000 km of power lines and serving around 3.8 million customers. The company is dual-listed on the Bucharest and London stock exchanges, with the Romanian state as the largest shareholder (approx. 49%).

Electrica reported RON 9.1 billion in revenue and RON 363.5 million in net income for 2024, operating with approximately 7,800 employees. The firm has invested heavily in its infrastructure, allocating RON 1.12 billion in 2024 to distribution networks, supply operations, renewables, and maintenance. It is also expanding into renewable generation and storage: launching Romania’s first AI-based energy footprinting system at its headquarters and establishing a dedicated energy-generation subsidiary aiming to develop 400 MW of renewable capacity and 100 MW of storage.
