Romanian utility Electrica Group has launched two major solar project tenders to expand renewable energy capacity in the country. One tender is for a 62.5 MW solar power plant in the Doba commune in north-western Romania, being run by Electrica’s subsidiary New Trend Energy S.R.L., while the second is for a 77.6 MW solar facility in the Cefa and Mădăraș communes managed by Foton Power Energy S.R.L., another Electrica-owned company.
Both projects are at the ready-to-build stage with required construction permits already secured, and the scope of work for each includes design, procurement, installation, commissioning, testing, and operation & maintenance (O&M) over the warranty period. The tenders also call for the construction of 110 kV electrical substations, and the larger project will include behind-the-meter electricity storage. Application deadlines for interested EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contractors are February 17 and February 12, 2026, for the two tenders, respectively, with clarification request deadlines shortly before. These moves form part of Electrica’s strategy to increase its renewable energy portfolio and support Romania’s broader transition to cleaner power generation.
