VSB Group has announced that its services unit has adopted artificial intelligence (AI) technology to monitor its wind farm portfolio. Turbit Systems GmbH has developed an AI monitoring solution for wind turbines, which integrates predictive maintenance and AI-supported performance monitoring with intelligent alarms into the daily work of technical operations management.
Turbit uses historical SCADA data from wind turbines to learn their normal behavior using neural networks. The system then simulates this behavior and compares it with current sensor data. If any deviations are detected, Turbit automatically sends alarms to technical management. These alarms are then discussed, tracked, and classified in regular exchanges with Turbit, and the data is used to train deep neural networks that predict classification.
VSB currently manages wind and solar farms and substations with a capacity of around 1.4 GW, while Turbit is said to be monitoring over 1,700 wind turbines in Europe using AI infrastructure.
This move towards AI-supported monitoring in the renewable energy sector is a significant step towards efficient and sustainable energy production. By leveraging AI to detect anomalies and predict maintenance requirements, wind turbines can operate at their full capacity, reducing downtime and costs associated with repairs. The partnership between VSB and Turbit is expected to drive the adoption of AI in the renewable energy industry further.
