Germany added 780 MW of new solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity in January, almost doubling the amount from January 2022. Most of the new capacity came from small-scale PV systems that receive feed-in tariff (FIT) support. The total PV capacity reached 68.2 GW at the end of January, with more than 2.7 million projects across the country.

Bavaria is the leading state in terms of PV capacity with 18.8 GW, followed by Baden-Württemberg with 8.37 GW and North Rhine-Westphalia with about 7.7 GW. These three states account for more than half of the total PV capacity in Germany.

The FIT rates for new PV systems will not change until January 2024. They are fixed regardless of the monthly installation volumes. This provides stability and certainty for the solar market in Germany.
