Volkswagen Group France (VGF) has inaugurated a 20 MW photovoltaic (PV) plant on the carport of its Villers-Cotterêts headquarters in the Hauts-de-France region of northern France. Spread over an area of 15 ha, the project includes two 10 MW units and was built at a cost of EUR20 million (US$21.8 million).
Engie Green developed and funded the installation. The French Ministry of Ecological Transition chose the project following a selection process between 2020 and 2021. Local communities have also supported this endeavor through crowdfunding.
Engie Green has constructed 13 such facilities across France that transform parking lots into green energy production sites encompassing around 200 ha, with this carport being the latest addition. As of January 1, 2023, Engie Green operated and oversaw 2.4 GW of wind farms and 1.7 GW of solar projects throughout France.
