The local Victorian council has approved the development of a 70 MW solar photovoltaic farm with an energy storage system in the Latrobe Valley.
The Morwell Solar Farm, proposed by ARP Australian Solar, plans a 70 MW solar PV and a battery energy storage system (BESS) with a generating capacity of between 5 MW to 30 MW. The project will be built in the towns of Morwell and Churchill.
ARP has submitted an application to build the project on two parcels of land on either side of Tramway Road, which is a location of a decommissioned coal power station.
