Transgrid has started the construction of the 900-km Project EnergyConnect interconnector in Australia.
The project will connect the electricity grids of New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria, in addition to encouraging the development of new wind, solar photovoltaic, and energy storage projects.
The US$1.76 billion Project EnergyConnect is a joint venture between Transgrid and ElectraNet. The interconnector will have a nominal capacity of 800 MW in both directions. It will link Wagga Wagga in New South Wales, via Buronga with an additional line between Buronga and Red Cliffs in Victoria.
