The Victorian Big Battery project has been temporarily disconnected from the grid after a fire broke out in one of Tesla's Megapack battery units during testing. Though the flames had subsided by Friday evening (30/07/2021), emergency services remained on site with Tesla staff and contractors to monitor the temperature decline of the two affected battery packs.
The 300-MW/450-MWh battery storage project is located near AusNet Services’ existing Moorabool Terminal Station near Geelong and is touted as one of the world's biggest energy storage facilities.
There were no injuries reported on the site. Physical inspections and investigations are now underway.
