Neoen SA has reached halfway mark in the construction of its 300 MW/450 MWh Victorian Big Battery near Geelong, the biggest battery storage project in Australia once commissioned.
Victorian transmission company AusNet Services has also energized both transformers which will connect the Victorian Big Battery to the grid.
The project is expected to be operational by the summer of 2022. Financing of the Victorian Big Battery was completed just three months after Neoen secured a 250 MW grid services contract with the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO). The project will be funded by a combination of equity provided by Neoen and an AUD160 million (US$124 million) senior debt facility provided by the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC), on behalf of the Australian Government.
