Taipower has announced that 14 MW of its 100 MW solar project in Changhua County, west-central Taiwan, has been connected to the grid. The 100 MW plant is scheduled to achieve full commercial operations in February, generating enough electricity to supply more than 30,000 households.
Spanning 140 hectares of land in the Lunwei District of Zhangbin Industrial Zone, the plant will be the largest solar power generation facility in Taiwan. The project is also unprecedented as the plant is the first domestic solar photovoltaic system to use the 160,000-volt transmission network.
It is also equipped with energy storage equipment to become the first multi-functional renewable energy power plant with both energy generation and energy storage. Taipower has invested TWD6.2 billion (US$200 million) in the project.
