Jan De Nul Group has announced that it has begun construction activities for the Changhua offshore wind farm in Taiwan, owned by Taiwan Power Company. The sod-cutting ceremony was held on 25 August 2018.

The first phase of construction entails onshore cable installation works to connect the existing onshore sub-station to the cable interface near shore. The onshore cables are currently being installed in an underground track of 13km of duct banks. For these construction works, 2km of horizontal directional drillings will be performed in over 13 different locations and 45 prefabricated manholes will be installed.

Onshore works will take 20 months and are being executed by Taiwanese subcontractor Star Energy Corporation. The connecting submarine cable will be installed in the course of 2020.

Jan De Nul was appointed construction contractor for the project in April 2018. The company is responsible for the design, fabrication and installation of the foundations, the installation of the wind turbines, the supply and installation of the cables off- and onshore and the upgrading of the substation. The wind farm is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2019.
