Smithfield signs 12-year PPA deal for the 75 MW of Diamond Springs Wind Farm

Smithfield Foods has signed a 12-year power purchase agreement (PPA) deal with Allete Clean Energy for the 75 MW of the 300 MW Diamond Springs Wind Farm located in Oklahoma. 

The facility is currently being developed in southern Oklahoma, roughly 25 miles northeast from the city of Ardmore.

Aside from Smithfield, the project has a PPA deals with Walmart and Starbucks. Walmart has agreed to purchase 175 megawatts for 15 years and Starbucks will purchase 50 megawatts for 15 years. 

Diamond Spring will be ALLETE Clean Energy’s largest wind site when operations begin in 2020. ALLETE Clean Energy will begin construction late this year or in early 2020.
