Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has completed the acquisition of all the shares of Ria Blades, SA, the business entity that controls and operates the onshore blade manufacturing plant in the Portuguese town of Vagos, as well as other assets necessary for the operation of the factory. With this acquisition, the company completes the purchase of a selection of Senvion assets.
The Ria Blades plant has the excellent operating capacity and is well connected both by road and by sea. The acquisition will help strengthen the competitiveness of Siemens Gamesa in its onshore business, since the plant will absorb the increase in production that would otherwise be carried out by external suppliers, mainly from Asia. The acquisition of the plant will also enhance existing manufacturing capacity and limit exposure to supply chain bottlenecks, as well as volatility in currency markets and trade tariffs.
The total purchase price of Senvion's assets, including the Vagos plant, Europe's onshore services assets, and intellectual property, is EUR200 million (US$219.3 million), subject to closing account confirmation adjustments.
