Sempra Infrastructure and Silicon Valley Power (SVP) have signed a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for Sempra's 300 MW Cimarrón wind project, which is being built in Baja California, Mexico. The wind farm will supply renewable energy to the City of Santa Clara, California, USA.
Cimarrón will utilize the existing cross-border high voltage transmission line of Sempra Infrastructure to interconnect with and distribute sustainable energy to the East County Substation in San Diego County.
Cimarrón will be powered by around 60 wind turbines that can produce enough energy to meet the annual energy needs of more than 84,000 homes. This will cut greenhouse gas emissions by about 210,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2-eq) per year. Commercial agreements, permissions, and a final investment decision are required to develop the project.
