The Rookery South Energy Recovery Facility project in Bedfordshire, UK has reached a financial close.

The project features a moving grate combustion technology. It can accommodate up to 480,000 metric tons of municipal, commercial and industrial residual waste annually, enough to generate over 50 MW of low carbon energy, enough to power up to 65,000 homes.

In January 2018, the project has received an environmental permit to initiate the construction phase. The facility is expected to be operational by 2020.

The waste-to-energy facility is developed by Veolia (20%), Covanta (40%), and Green Investment Group (40%). Hitachi Zosen Inova is commissioned to deliver the engineering, procurement and construction contract for the project.
