Renewable Energy Systems Ltd (RES) has acquired planning permission for the 14 MW Barr Cregg wind farm project that be builtat Barr Cregg, near Derry, Northern Ireland. The facility consists of seven turbines of up to 125 m (410.1 ft) that can generate electricity for more than 12,200 homes, once completed. The output will cover around 21.1% of the household power demand in Derry City and Strabane District Council area.
The planning permit for the project was issued by the Planning Appeals Commission after the Derry and Strabane Council withdrew reasons for previously blocking the scheme.
About GBP7.8 million (US$9.4 million) will be spent for the construction, which will result a substantial investment in Derry and Strabane District Council area.
