Q ENERGY Inaugurates 11 MWp Chênet Solar Farm in France

Q ENERGY has inaugurated the 11 MWp Chênet Solar Farm in partnership with local stakeholders in the Marne department of France.

Q ENERGY has inaugurated the Chênet Solar Farm in the French municipalities of Sapignicourt and Hauteville, in the Marne department. Developed on the site of a former sand and gravel quarry, the 11 MWp solar facility produces locally generated renewable electricity equivalent to the annual consumption of more than 4,800 people. The project is part of the redevelopment of a former extraction site that was operational from 1992 to 2009. By using previously developed land, the solar farm has transformed nearly eight hectares of the former quarry into a productive renewable energy site, supplying clean power to the surrounding area. 

Launched in 2021, the project was developed through close cooperation with local authorities, government agencies, landowners and other stakeholders. Ongoing consultations during the development phase helped address the site’s specific characteristics and enabled the project to progress through to commissioning. The Chênet solar farm features nearly 18,000 photovoltaic panels installed across 7.8 hectares, providing an installed capacity of 11 MWp. The facility is expected to produce enough electricity annually to meet the equivalent consumption of more than 4,800 people while avoiding around 2,900 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. Sheep also graze beneath the solar panels. This helps maintain the site while restoring an agricultural use to the former quarry, demonstrating how renewable energy generation and livestock farming can coexist on the same land.
