The Government of Puerto Rico has launched a request for qualification (RFQ) process for the development of the Puerto Rico Ocean Technology Complex (PROTech) project to be built in the municipality of Yabucoa.
The project is an ocean thermal energy conversion facility that converts energy for the usage of various industries such as energy production, aquaculture, agriculture, micro-algae cultivation, refrigeration, among others. This innovative concept, which will be the first in the Caribbean and the third in the world, will be the spearhead of economic growth in the southeast region of Puerto Rico, and eventually the Island.
The estimated value of about US$300 million is needed for the entire development of the project.
